A Letter from the Founder

Finding beauty in the collective journey.

Akuol is the founder of Akuolie, an organisation dedicated to building inclusive spaces where women can connect, grow, and feel a sense of belonging. After migrating to Australia as a child, she recognised early the lack of accessible community spaces for immigrant women.

Her experience moving to Melbourne during the 2021 lockdown deepened this understanding, as she and many others struggled to find spaces that reflected their identities and experiences. Akuolie was created in response.

The name Akuolie is a reflection of Akuol’s own story, combining her name, passed down from her great grandmother, with the “ie” added by her Australian friends. This blend of cultures sits at the heart of the organisation’s mission to create a space where all women in Australia, regardless of who they are or where they come from, can belong.
